LO LIFES

I had the privilege/pleasure of editing Tom Gould's book in collaboration with Thirstin Howl the 3rd. Bury Me With the Lo On, published by Victory Editions, is the first-ever comprehensive documentation of the curious subculture surrounding Polo Ralph Lauren.

It all started with a gang from '80s Brooklyn called Lo Lifes. They dressed themselves in the finest garments stolen from every upper-class department store in the tri-state area, while living a reality that was the complete opposite of what Ralph Lauren represented.

To the authorities Lo Lifes were criminals, but to themselves and people on the streets, their actions signified something else. They aspired to be something greater, and empowered themselves by taking something that wasn’t meant for them and making it their own.

Bury Me With the Lo On was a really special project to work on, representing five years of work. The 264-page hardcover book features interviews with the likes of Raekwon, Action Bronson, Just Blaze and key Lo Life members alongside never-before-seen archival images and recent portraits.
