Artists in Space

Celebrating nearly 10 years of friendship and creative collaboration, it is an honor to be the publisher and editor of Mr. Wash’s first hardcover book, Artists in Space.

Our 200-page clothbound hardcover book offers a rare and intimate look into the studios of 20 of Los Angeles’s most dynamic working artists today.

All proceeds go towards building the Art By Wash Studio & Community Center in Compton, dedicated to growth and restoration via arts programming, creative residencies, and housing for people returning home from prison.

Artists in Space was a true labor of love, made possible by a group of talented individuals who generously gave their time and talent to make everything happen.

In my role as publisher/editor, I led everything from project sponsorship, editorial oversight and marketing to print and event production.

The book received press coverage from outlets including KCRW, L.A. Taco and L.A. Times.

We are also so honored for the book to have been acquired into the library collection of The Met in NYC!

Artists in Space was made possible by Brandon Ly and Tiffany Hsieh, with additional support from WePresent.

Since our book was all about community, we used our project to bring the community together. Our two beautiful launch events hosted at Mr. Wash’s current studio space featured him in conversation with Compton artists in the book, Anthony Lee Pittman and Mel Depaz moderated by Helen Molesworth, as well as Patrisse Cullors and Evan Pricco of The Unibrow.
